Scott council introduces annexation, hears engineering updates and names comprehensive-plan administrator

The Scott City Council on Aug. 5, 2021 heard engineering updates about forthcoming road projects and the mayor introduced a new comprehensive plan administrator.

Mayor Richard told the council the city will launch a new utility bill statement in early September and announced a Household Hazardous Waste Day and a "Sweep Scott" litter campaign scheduled for Aug. 5 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Public Works Building, 118 Lions Club Road; residents must show proof of residency. The minutes record those items in the Mayor's Report but provide no additional logistical or staffing details.

Groom's Engineering reported that bids will be awarded at the next meeting for three items: Cameron Street Utility Relocation, the Desjacque Lift Station, and a street overlay project; an intergovernmental agreement (IGA) with LCG for the Ulinor Road overlay will require added cross drains for improved drainage and an amendment will be added to the next agenda. Josh Broussard of Fenstermaker & Associates said the firm is working with the Acadiana Planning Commission on an application to widen Apollo Road between Cameron Street and Old Spanish Trail and presented a video showing highlights of utility relocation for Apollo Road Phases II and III.

Mayor Richard also introduced Mrs. Bonnie Anderson as the city's comprehensive plan administrator and permitting support; the minutes state she "will start employment on August 9th, 2021." The minutes do not include background details about Anderson's previous positions or the scope of her duties beyond helping in permitting; those items should be confirmed with city staff for follow-up reporting.

Bids, the IGA amendment, and the annexation ordinance were placed on future agendas for formal action; the council adjourned at 6:30 p.m.
