Residents from the Marcella Street area addressed the Town Board on March 5, 2025, reporting an ongoing public‑safety problem: nails and screws placed across neighborhood roadways have punctured dozens of vehicle tires and pose a persistent hazard.
Jillian Gonzales (609 Marcella St), Jerry Wilczynski (608 Marcella St) and a resident identified only as Kathy (611 Marcella St) presented a box containing multiple dated bags of nails and screws they said they collected and reported that, as of the meeting, 61 tires had been affected overall and 85 nails were picked up from the street that day. They said town highway employees had also removed some material and that they had contacted both the New York State Police and the Endicott Police regarding jurisdiction.
Supervisor Robert Mack advised the residents to contact the Broome County Sheriff’s Office, which he said is better equipped to coordinate the response, and Councilman Joseph P. Nirchi, Sr. advised visiting the Endicott Police Station to speak with a supervisor so local and county law enforcement could coordinate. The transcript records that Town Highway Supervisor John Mase told residents the highway department would attach trucks with magnets to aid cleanup.
The board did not take a formal vote at the March 5 meeting but recorded the complaint and suggested law‑enforcement coordination and highway department cleanup as immediate follow‑up actions.
