Shawnee County commissioners elect Bill Ripon chair, Kevin Cook vice chair

Bill Ripon was elected chair of the Shawnee County Board of County Commissioners at the board's Jan. 12 organizational meeting, and Kevin Cook was appointed vice chair. Both selections were approved by voice vote, recorded as carrying three to zero.
The meeting opened with introductions by Aaron Maize, who stated he represents District 3 and named the other commissioners and several county officials present. Commissioners then reviewed assignment of representatives to boards and committees; the board approved a proposed slate with one change moving an intergovernmental council assignment to Commissioner Mays.
The board also adopted resolution R20260001 to set courthouse hours and its meeting schedule (moving regular meetings to Thursdays and returning work sessions to Mondays) and designated the Metro News as the official county newspaper under resolution R2026002. All actions on the organizational items were approved by recorded voice votes and unanimous consent where noted.
Routine items followed: the commission approved the consent agenda and correction orders without discussion. County clerk staff reported voucher payments totaling $7,128,759.20 and highlighted major line items including insurance premiums and special assessment and state grant progress payments; the board approved the voucher report.
