The Shawnee County Board of County Commissioners on Dec. 15 unanimously approved a package of 2026 contracts, license renewals and budget allocations covering public-safety software, social services and county facilities.
County officials presented the vouchers and contracts during a brief meeting in which each recorded vote was 3–0. The county clerk highlighted a significant payment of $386,684.79 to Tyler Technologies for annual software maintenance covering sheriff, emergency management and local law-enforcement systems; commissioners approved the voucher report.
Why it matters: the approvals lock in vendor contracts and funding levels for next year, keeping routine county operations—IT systems, social services, the county fair and animal shelter coverage—contracted and funded before the new fiscal year.
Key approvals included the renewal of Nutanix support and licensing under state contract pricing, which Mark Price, Shawnee County information-technology official, said enables the county to continue using existing virtualization hardware without major immediate hardware purchases and has kept the county ahead of recent sharp increases in VMware renewal costs that some peers reported. “We were actually ahead of the curve and have been able to save a lot of money,” Price said.
The board also approved the purchase of an endpoint-management product (contract C4782025) for $25,833, numerous social-services contracts (including a $40,000 allocation to the Community Resources Council), and a set of 12 social-services fund allocations totaling $258,500 as previously approved in the 2026 budget. Commissioners approved 12 contracts for elderly services programs for 2026 totaling $773,764.
Other actions: the board authorized two malt-beverage licenses, extended a motor-vehicle annex lease for the office of the treasurer, allocated $12,600 to the Shawnee County Fair Association to help cover 2026 fair costs, and approved a contract with Helping Hands Humane Society to shelter and handle stray or dangerous animals in the county. Solid Waste requested and received permission to issue requests for quotations for commercial and industrial containers and to create six additional positions (two drivers and four collectors) funded from the department’s operational user-fee fund; a Solid Waste representative, Bill, said the additional staffing is needed due to growth and confirmed those positions will be user-fee funded.
What was not decided: no new policy changes or contested votes were taken. Several contract dollar figures reported in the transcript were unclear; the board approved the items as presented in the meeting materials. The board did not take questions on the public commenter’s legal claims during the meeting.
The commission adjourned with no executive session scheduled and no further action announced.
