Burbank Fire Department wins national accreditation; council approves one‑year BCEA contract

Fire Chief Danny Alvarez told the council on June 30 that the Burbank Fire Department has been awarded accredited agency status by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International, one of the highest professional recognitions for a fire agency. Alvarez said the department met more than 200 performance indicators, completed a community‑driven strategic plan and a comprehensive risk assessment, and benefited from a permanent fourth rescue ambulance that helped meet accreditation criteria.
Shortly afterward council considered a labor agreement with the Burbank City Employees Association. Management Services Director Betsy McClinton summarized a tentative one‑year memorandum of understanding covering fiscal year 2026–27. The agreement provides a 2% general salary increase for BCEA employees and increases the city's employer contribution to employee medical premiums by 5 percentage points. McClinton said state pension reporting requirements now require compensation items be presented to council in a staff report rather than on consent.
Council adopted the resolutions approving the MOU and the citywide salary schedule by unanimous vote.
