The Board of Assessors handled several administrative items at its June 16, 2026 meeting, including financial, audit and regional coordination matters.
Board members reviewed and signed warrants for disbursement in accordance with established practice. The Board authorized the Clerk to execute the FY 2025–2026 municipal audit engagement letter on or after July 1, 2026, noting limited availability among governmental audit firms and timing constraints related to the fiscal year and funding availability. Assessor Lisa Kinsman made the motion to authorize execution; First Assessor Rodney Varney seconded it and the motion passed.
On the Maine Municipal Association Legislative Policy Committee election ballot, the Board voted to support the candidacies of Ethna Thompson and Gary McGrane (motion by Kinsman, second by Varney). The Board also discussed a missing road sign on Old Country Road, accepted that the reporter located the sign and offered to buy replacement hardware, and concurred that maintenance of private road signage remains the responsibility of property owners while supporting the individual’s offer to repair the bracket.
Regarding the regional funding formula, Assessor Kinsman advocated for using current, annually updated data (population, housing counts, state valuation) rather than older census figures and suggested requesting updated data from participating communities as of April 1, 2026 along with historical data for fiscal years 2023–2024 through 2025–2026. The Clerk reported previous resistance in obtaining some data. The Board directed the Clerk/BOA Secretary to prepare correspondence requesting updated information in advance of the next quarterly regional meeting, anticipated for September 2026.
The meeting adjourned at 5:27 PM. The next Regular Board of Assessors meeting is scheduled for June 30, 2026 at 3:30 PM.
