Byron council approves series of appointments, contracts and routine agreements
Summary
Council unanimously approved appointments to redevelopment and DDA/CVB boards, awarded a $78,000 landscape contract to Hedge Row Landscaping (only compliant bidder), ratified HVAC work and maintenance contracts, authorized several leases and service agreements, and approved the surplus of a police vehicle.
At its Dec. 14 meeting the Byron Mayor and Council approved a package of appointments, contract awards and routine agreements as recorded in the minutes.
Appointments and reappointments: The council appointed Jimmy Walker and reappointed BJ Walker and Jeff Owens to the Byron Redevelopment Authority (terms to Dec. 31, 2023). The council also reappointed BJ Walker, John Klemm, Hiren Parmer, Jeff Owens, Farrell Bass and Mike Patel to the DDA/Convention & Visitors Bureau Board of Directors (terms to Dec. 31, 2024). All were approved unanimously on motions recorded in the minutes.
Procurement and contracts: The council awarded the landscape services contract for Jan. 1, 2021–Dec. 31, 2022 to Hedge Row Landscaping for $78,000; the minutes state Hedge Row was the only bid that met the RFP insurance requirements and the award includes a 12-month renewal option at the same price. Submitted bid amounts recorded were CBM Solutions $78,499.92, Hedge Row $78,000.00, Get It Done Lawn Care Services $74,400.00 and Peach Lawn Pros $70,890.00.
Facility maintenance and equipment: The council ratified the installation of a Trane OEM 7.5T RTU heat exchanger in the Municipal Complex lobby by Airmasters of Middle Georgia for $3,565 and approved a quarterly preventative maintenance agreement with Air Masters for 17 HVAC systems. Council also authorized emergency lighting repair and updates for up to $3,200 to be performed by Matthew Sapp.
Leases and professional services: The council authorized the mayor to execute a lease with the Byron Area Historical Society and approved an agreement with the Byron Convention and Visitors Bureau Authority, a rental agreement with the Byron Warehouse Group, and a rental agreement with an Al‑Anon group. Council approved contracting Eileen P. Kee for accounting services and an agreement with Government Tax Solutions (effective date recorded in the minutes as Jan. 1, 2020). Council also approved authorizing the police department to surplus a 2013 Ford Interceptor Sedan to be sold on GovDeals.com.
