Council tables zoning-code amendment to meet public-notice rules; staff to pursue ordinance cleanup

Council and staff said the unified development ordinance (UDO) currently includes a 30-day newspaper public-notice requirement that remains in the text even after the city's charter change removed the newspaper notice requirement in other language. For that reason, council voted to table the ordinance until the July 6 meeting to allow staff time to publicize and to correct the duplicated notice provision.
Staff (Andy) described the ordinance as a streamlining measure to simplify approvals for minor subdivisions — parcels that will not be divided into more than five lots — and said the changes clarify administrative authority for those approvals.
Why it matters: the change affects how the city notifies the public about planning and zoning changes and could speed minor subdivision approvals if duplicate notice language is removed.
