Representative Powers and solid waste committee members earlier reported the transfer-station project’s estimated total at $6,454,596 and said the county planned to use $750,000 from the solid waste reserve to begin the work, with a bond to finance the remainder. The committee reported awarding general construction and trade contracts (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) to named bidders so work could proceed during the building season.
Members questioned the bond vote’s implications for user fees and long-term costs. Officials said the repayment plan relies on existing user-fee revenues (reported at approximately $470,000 per year) and noted that future rate adjustments could be necessary to cover debt service. The board discussed timing and fiscal prudence but ultimately adopted the bond authorization on roll-call vote.
The board also approved several late resolutions related to transferring and modifying departmental funds and formally authorized a contract with ING Civil for the Route 58A bridge (Resolution 293) during the same session. The transfer-station and waste-building actions will be reflected in county financing schedules and require subsequent contract execution and budgeting steps.
