Amityville trustees adopt playing-field fees, approve routine hires and payments

The Village of Amityville Board of Trustees on Feb. 24, 2026, unanimously approved a resolution establishing 2026 fees for village playing fields and approved a slate of routine hires, vendor payments and event permissions following praise for storm response.
Mayor Michael O’Neill called the Village of Amityville Board of Trustees to order at 12:00 p.m. on Feb. 24, 2026, and opened the meeting with a recognition of municipal staff after Winter Storm Hernando.
The board unanimously approved a resolution (No. 26-02-24-01) establishing village playing-field rental fees for 2026. The resolution sets a daily rental rate of $100 for a minimum four hours and adds a $150 fee per session when lighting is requested; the fees became effective immediately.
Trustees also approved personnel actions, including accepting the resignation of Paramedic/Narcotics Agent Dimitri Fedorov and hiring three EMTs — Julianna Patti, Stephanie Billharz and Nikita Pustovoit — at the current rate of $24.00 per hour with residency waivers and a Feb. 25 start date.
A series of routine vendor payments and contract approvals carried by unanimous votes. Notable approvals included retaining Siegel and Sitler, PLLC for legal services at $275/hour for attorneys and $125/hour for paralegals; accepting Municipal Valuation Services, Inc. for 2026/27 assessment and small-claims services; and authorizing VHB Engineering & Surveying PC to perform a SEQRA review for Triangle Park and Greene Avenue improvements. The board approved payments including $263,366.53 for monthly health insurance, $13,820.00 for Jumpstart Grant survey and design work, $12,665.54 for fuel, and smaller payments for ambulance claims, municipal software billing and other services.
The trustees approved several community requests: South Bay Volleyball’s use of beach volleyball courts for the summer season and specific tournament dates; installation of a Peace Pole at Linda Batz Memorial Park by the Rotary Club of Amityville with DPW assistance; use of village entranceway signs by First United Methodist Church for an April–May craft sale; and an Amityville PBA request to hold a 5K race May 16, 2026, at James A. Caples Park. The board also authorized DPW expenditures related to storm cleanup, including payment to Atlantic Salt for 50.80 tons of salt and one week of rental truck service for snow removal.
There were no public comments during the public-comment period. The board moved into executive session later in the meeting and reconvened before adjourning at 12:41 p.m. The next regular meeting is scheduled for March 9, 2026.
