The Amityville Planning Board on Feb. 5 approved a façade alteration at 184 Broadway that relocates the storefront entrance to the right and replaces the former door opening with a window, with the condition that the work reuse existing materials so the exterior remains cohesive.
Architect Harold Gebhart said the project relocates the door and window to accommodate an interior staircase connecting the second floor and the first. Gebhart told the board that materials already on-site will be reused so the change is primarily a reconfiguration of openings rather than a wholesale façade replacement.
Board members noted the proposed change preserves the building’s current appearance because materials will be matched and reused. Chairperson Stephen Greenwald moved approval on the condition that materials and finishes follow the rendering presented to the board; Member Amanda Lowe seconded. The motion carried with a 5-0 vote.
The applicant was reminded that building-permit approval is required before construction begins; no public opposition was recorded at the meeting.
