During department-head reports at the Sept. 16 meeting, Fire/EMS Chief Darrick Crochran and EMS Chief Bruce Silcott updated council on equipment, staffing and training.
Chief Crochran reported that a fire engine is out of service and taken to Brown's for a repair quote; Engine 503 will be used as the reserve in the meantime. He said nine new recruits have passed their first class (two must retest), described ongoing maintenance on the Fire Hall and equipment, and said his goal since taking the role has been to "lead together." Crochran also discussed a 75-foot ladder truck being adequate for the village and said he and Mickey Smith have discussed a FEMA grant related to apparatus.
EMS Chief Bruce Silcott said the new ambulance initially exhibited a problem where it shuts itself off if left running; the unit has been taken to Jim Schmidt's to examine whether that feature can be disabled. Silcott told council he would like two new cardiac monitors (approximately $60,000 each) and that supplies cost about $1,500 each week. He also said some billing revenue has come in and that the Medical Director will be in the village for training the following day. Silcott requested an executive session to discuss a personnel matter.
Council did not record any formal vote specific to purchase authorization for monitors at this meeting; the update and requests were recorded as part of department reports.
