Monroe council unanimously approves multiple resolutions, names News‑Star official journal

The Monroe City Council on June 9 approved a series of resolutions and routine items, including cooperative agreements, service contracts and the designation of an official journal.
Chairman Rodney McFarland explained he had been asked to pull Agenda Item A because of a pending court case and limited time for council participation. "He had been asked to pull agenda item A because of the upcoming court case and the limited time available for the council to participate effectively," McFarland said, and the council subsequently approved the motion to pull the item (motion by Mr. Muhammad, seconded by Ms. Woods).
Among the actions taken, the council unanimously:
- Approved a Cooperative Endeavor with the Southside Economic Development District to appropriate funds for economic development (motion by Ms. Woods; second Mr. Muhammad).
- Approved a Cooperative Endeavor with Massey Miracle Run Foundation, Inc., with council members expressing support for the event; Ms. Massey asked for a photograph with the council (motion by Ms. Woods; second Mr. Muhammad).
- Authorized a Professional Service Agreement with Proworks Productions, LLC for videography and digital media services (motion by Mr. Muhammad; second Mrs. Ezernack).
- Designated the News‑Star as the Official Journal of the City of Monroe pursuant to Louisiana R.S. 43:141 et seq. (motion by Mr. Muhammad; second Mrs. Ezernack).
- Voted to consider an application by Gurpreet Singh dba Smokers Paradise & Daiquiris for a New 2026 Class B Alcoholic Beverage Permit after required departmental checks cleared (motion by Ms. Woods; second Mrs. Ezernack).
The council also approved the minutes of the prior session (Mrs. Ezernack abstained on that vote). All listed votes were recorded as unanimously approved among members present; one councilmember, Mr. Harvey, was absent.
