Hicksville council reviews completed water projects, final costs and upcoming valve work

The Hicksville Village Council heard updates on several completed and upcoming water infrastructure projects during its Sept. 3 meeting.
The council was told that Baumann Enterprises completed demolition of the village water tower and that all punch-list items were addressed; a new fire hydrant was installed and the yard was graded and seeded. Administrator Cory Wann’s report (read for him) listed the final cost of the project as $90,273.86, compared with an original bid of $82,770, and said the work was funded by a CDBG grant.
Council members also reviewed the completed water-main replacements on East Cornelia and Rock Street. The contractor Hohenbrink finished replacements, completed punch-list items and repaved affected streets. The final cost for that work was reported as $322,480.70 (including change orders), slightly below the original bid of $328,296.20; the report noted a $170,000 OPWC grant toward the project.
Looking ahead, the village plans valve-replacement work through JDY Excavating at a cost of $43,500, to be funded by a CDBG grant, with work scheduled to start in the coming weeks.
Why it matters: the projects restore critical water infrastructure and rely on state and federal grant funding, which affects future budgeting and maintenance planning. Completion of the water-main work also included street repaving tied to those excavations.
