The Plymouth Township Communications Advisory Committee moved to revive a print newsletter and agreed key publication details, including a content deadline of July 10 for the first issue and an initial distribution goal of September 1.
Committee members said the township had paused print newsletters since 2020 and that the revived edition will be mailed to every household while also being available digitally. Departments will supply content; the communications committee will help with design, the newsletter "corner" and a name and tagline. The committee discussed offering residents a choice between print and email subscriptions to control distribution costs.
Members reviewed possible titles and hashtags and settled on a concise newsletter title, "Life in Plymouth," with a proposed tagline, "close to everything, far from ordinary." They also discussed launching a hashtag campaign tied to rotating, issue-specific challenges (for example, a parks-themed photography challenge for the fall) to encourage resident contributions on Instagram, TikTok and other platforms.
The committee agreed on a timeline: departments will submit articles by July 10; the first revived print issue aims for a September distribution, and future issues are planned twice yearly with a January issue next. Committee members asked staff to coordinate fonts and color schemes with the upcoming website and to circulate one or two proofs for committee review before printing.
Members also discussed content guidance for spotlighting new businesses, favoring a neutral, inclusive list of licensed new businesses rather than curated endorsements, and suggested featuring public-safety education (for example, an item about e-bike safety) where appropriate.
The committee set August 5 as a likely meeting to review drafts and requested that staff collect any material that arrives between now and early August.
