Canby council OKs Hat Daze funding, event permits and begins police chief recruitment

The Canby City Council on May 19 voted unanimously to provide up to $1,000 in support for an off-year Canby Airport "Hat Daze" event planned for June 21 that will include food trucks, free kites and airplane rides. The motion to fund the event was made by Councilmember Rick Bueltel and seconded by Susan Cram.
Council approved an outdoor dance permit for the band Heroes and authorized blocking a section of Haarfager after the parade for the band's set (motion by Marisa Kack; second by Susan Cram). The council also approved a temporary liquor license application for Remington Ridge Vineyard for July 23–25, contingent on the vineyard providing an updated liquor liability certificate (the certificate on file expires July 17). The motion to approve the license was made by Rick Bueltel and seconded by Marisa Kack.
On personnel matters the council approved assigning Casey Namken as the CLEO for the Canby Police Department with the Minnesota POST Board (motion by Bueltel, second by Cram). The council also authorized advertising for the Police Chief position following the salary range in the current LELS union contract (motion by Kack, second by Bueltel).
All motions at the meeting were recorded as passing unanimously among the members present. Administration will follow up on license documentation, event coordination and recruitment steps as directed by council.
