Commissioners emphasize youth engagement, diversity and transportation as top priorities for Brooklyn Park

At a facilitated table session during the Aug. 5 joint Council–Commission meeting, commissioners and staff discussed three questions about city strengths, wishes for the city’s future and the strengths participants bring to Brooklyn Park.
Groups most frequently named diversity as a core strength. Other commonly cited strengths and priorities were youth engagement, economic vitality (including jobs, housing and business recruitment), roads and transportation, a sense of safety and a robust volunteer culture.
When asked for three wishes for the city, participants highlighted youth engagement, economic vitality and a redistribution of resources to address community needs; safety and reputation/marketing were also mentioned. Multiple groups specifically listed transportation and roads among top priorities.
Groups reported strengths they bring to the city such as volunteering, strong neighborhood networks and support for local businesses. City Manager Jay Stroebel said staff will compile the table conversation results and prepare a summary report for council and commissions to inform the BP2025 refresh.
The meeting concluded by consensus at 8:00 p.m., and staff will circulate the compiled report to council and commission members.
