Montgomery County Commission approves $525,525 detention UPS replacement, grants agreement and other routine business

Montgomery County Commission Chairman Singleton convened the county’s formal session at 10:00 a.m. on Jan. 20, 2026 at Annex III of the Montgomery County Courthouse. The commission unanimously approved a set of consent items, most notably a change order for a new uninterruptible power supply at the Montgomery County Detention Facility estimated at up to $525,525.57.

The motion to add the detention-facility UPS replacement to the current contract, moved by Commissioner Castanza and seconded by Vice Chairman Moore-Zeigler, carried unanimously. County Administrator Kindell Anderson and packet materials cite a vendor direct-cost estimate of $419,978.76, overhead and contingencies that raise the revised total to $525,525.57 (packet documents also note a January 2026 price increase applied to the vendor quote).

The commission also approved a subrecipient agreement with Auburn University at Montgomery to serve as the evaluation partner for the Edward Byrne Memorial State Crisis Intervention Program (SCIP) grant. The subaward documents included in the packet specify $50,000 for evaluation services and standard federal-grant compliance language; the motion was moved by Vice Chairman Moore-Zeigler and seconded by Commissioner Castanza and carried unanimously.

Other actions approved by unanimous vote included the sale of three decommissioned Ford Explorer patrol vehicles to Macon County for $7,500 each (packet includes a letter from Macon County Sheriff Andre Brunson requesting the purchase); the commission approved two separate Amendment No. 1 contract extensions with Galls LLC. that extend uniform and polo-shirt supply contracts (each amendment documents a 5% price increase and new end dates in 2026–2027); and the commission authorized four county employee blood drives in 2026 and allowed elected officials and department heads discretion to grant up to four hours of paid administrative leave to employees who donate, to be scheduled in advance.

The meeting record shows the commission approved accounts-payable and payroll checks, miscellaneous appropriations to agencies ($29,630 listed in the packet), appropriations to education ($14,920 listed), designated-revenue appropriations ($17,000 listed), and multiple travel/training requests for staff. Deputy Administrator Walker briefed the commission on a CBGB grant close-out summary during staff reports. Commissioner Sankey offered invocation earlier in the meeting; Commissioner Harris participated electronically owing to illness. The commission adjourned at 10:22 a.m.
