Montgomery County Commissioners voted unanimously to approve a series of grants, contracts and bid awards during the March 17 formal session.
Approvals recorded in the minutes included submission of a grant application for the Stepping Up Initiative for the sheriff’s office; sale of ten decommissioned vehicles to the Alabama Department of Corrections; a grounds-usage agreement with Auburn University at Montgomery for the Sheriff’s Office annual Easter Egg Hunt; architectural design services with Lathan Associates for a new District 2 maintenance shop (see related packet); Budget Change Request Number 2; a bid award to Conway Outdoor Services for landscape maintenance at the Industrial Park; an award to ACME Supply Co., LTD for inmate uniforms for the Detention and Youth Facility; and miscellaneous appropriations to agencies and education. The minutes show each motion was moved and seconded, with each vote recorded as carried unanimously.
Separately, in a waived-rules sequence the Commission approved a grant application to the Bureau of Justice Assistance (Crime Gun Intelligence Center Integration Initiative), a grant application to Lowe’s Home Improvement, and a new contract for armored-car services with Montgomery Armored Car Service, Inc. County legal staff asked that the armored-car contract be placed on a waive-rule agenda item to avoid a lapse in service; staff noted the existing contract would otherwise expire before the next regular meeting.
Motions recorded in the minutes list the mover and seconder for each item (for example, the Stepping Up Initiative application was moved by Commissioner Daniel Harris and seconded by Vice Chairman Carmen Moore-Zeigler). Most approvals were presented as routine agenda items and carried by recorded unanimous votes.
