Dodge County commissioners approve routine minutes and $1.17 million in bills, table hospital authority appointments

Commissioner Leigh Ann Greene moved to approve the minutes from the May 4 regular meeting; Commissioner Jeffrey Jones seconded and the motion passed with all present voting in favor. Later the board approved an accounts-payable report totaling $1,170,794.21 after a motion from Commissioner Jeffrey Jones and a second from Commissioner Leigh Ann Greene.
During old business, Commissioner Sharon Cobb Flanagan moved to table appointments to the Dodge County Hospital Authority in the absence of Vice‑Chair Brian Watkins; Commissioner Jeffrey Jones seconded and the motion to table passed. The minutes list applications from Dr. Donald Selph, Mitchell Coffee, Mimi Dennis and Andresa LeNiece Johnson.
County Manager Conner Bearden reported four applications had been received for three open DFCS board positions (including an application from Manager Bearden himself) and noted one application for one open library-board seat from Nina Cook; the board will make selections at its next meeting. Manager Bearden also said he will call an organizational meeting of the Public Finance Authority to select officers and begin work on the judicial building finance process; Attorney John Harrington said he or Attorney Daniels would provide counsel.
Public-safety updates included Fire Chief Malcolm Tyson reporting 102 service calls last month (51 medical calls, five vehicle accidents and 25 brush or miscellaneous fires) and confirmation from Tyson that the Georgia Forestry Commission has lifted the county burn ban. EMS Director Michael Johnson reported 379 calls for April and said EMS generated $113,754.91 in revenue for the month.
Manager Bearden noted an upcoming county tire-abatement program from May 31 to June 14 and a Public Safety Association meeting scheduled for Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at the armory. He also relayed concerns from the tax assessor's meeting and said he would file an appeal if the county fails an upcoming audit. He mentioned recent Senate bills related to homestead exemptions that were under consideration.
With no other business the board adjourned at 6:31 p.m. on a motion from Commissioner Sharon Cobb Flanagan, seconded by Commissioner Leigh Ann Greene; all present voted in favor.
