Spring City commission approves purchases and logistics for "Spring City Splash," accepts resignation and schedules bylaws planning

The Spring City Tourism and Events Commission on July 23 approved purchases and logistical plans for its upcoming family event, Spring City Splash, accepted a resignation and set a planning meeting to address the commission bylaws.
Jody Bauer, a member of the commission, motioned to buy one adult kayak and one child kayak (including paddles if not provided), life jackets for each, and ten five-gallon buckets for event use; April Wesolowski seconded the motion and "all members were in favor," according to the minutes. The commission recorded that the ticket drawing will take place at 5:30 p.m., tickets are free and winners must be present to claim prizes.
The commission also discussed vendors and attractions for the Splash: Monkey Town Inflatables will supply inflatables, Destin to Chill will provide free ice treats for children (adults pay for theirs), and Visit Spring City will host a table. Members expressed hope the splash pad will be operational for the event, and April Wesolowski volunteered to arrange speakers and music. Candy Harris is checking with the Cumberland Trail organization about participating.
In a separate motion, Bauer said that if the commission receives a $75 Walmart gift card it should be used to purchase bottled water and other needed supplies; Wesolowski seconded and the motion passed. The commission asked Stephania Motes, on behalf of the city, to contact a hot dog truck about providing free hot dogs for children; that motion was approved as well.
The commission announced it had been awarded a $1,000 VEC Customers Share Grant (applied for in June) to be used for advertising and prizes. Stephania Motes also announced the Tennessee Municipal League had given the commission an "Excellence in Tourism Development" award and said she, Jody Bauer and Woody Evans would accept the honor on the city’s behalf.
On administrative matters, Teresa Evans moved to approve minutes for November 2023, January 2024, February 2024 and May 2024; Jody Bauer seconded and the motion passed. Evans also moved to accept the resignation of Tony Wesolwski; Bauer seconded and the resignation was accepted. The commission voted to table discussion of the bylaws until the Aug. 24 planning meeting and adjourned at 8:12 p.m.
The commission’s next regular meeting is scheduled for Aug. 27, 2024; the planning meeting for bylaws will meet Aug. 24, 2024, at 9:00 a.m.
