The Storey County Board of County Commissioners on April 7 approved tentative budgets for fiscal year 2026–27 for the county, the Storey County Fire Protection District and the Water & Sewer fund and directed submission to the Nevada Department of Taxation.
Comptroller Jennifer McCain told the board that General Fund revenues had been updated with all state revenues received; revenues increased by about $8 million while expenses rose roughly $1 million. Transfers totaled $22 million, yielding a projected county ending fund balance of $7.6 million. McCain said the Water & Sewer fund had changes reflected in the tentative budget and the Fire District tentative budget projected an ending fund balance of approximately $14 million, though adjustments could still occur prior to the final budget.
Each tentative budget was approved by a unanimous 3‑0 vote. The action forwards the budgets to the Nevada Department of Taxation as part of the statutorily required process; tentative approval does not finalize appropriations. McCain said further adjustments remain possible before the final budget adoption.
What happens next: The tentative budgets will be submitted to the Nevada Department of Taxation and the board will consider the final budgets at a later meeting, with any adjustments, appropriation decisions and public hearings as required by state law.
