Storey County adopts ordinance adding swimming-pool rules, sets gazebo fee for non-residents

The Storey County Board of County Commissioners on May 5 adopted Ordinance No. 26-339, amending Chapter 13.118 of the county code to rename the chapter to include Parks and Swimming Pool, clarify resident definitions and set user fees.

Business Development Director Lara Mather presented the ordinance during a public hearing held at the board meeting. The changes add definitions for “Storey County Resident” and “Immediate Family Member,” set a $100 fee for non-Storey County residents to reserve Miner’s Park gazebo, maintain $0 fees for general use of county parks and the Virginia City Baseball Field for both residents and non-residents, and add pool fees of $5 for daily admission, an $80 individual season pass and an $80 family pass for the first and second person with $50 for each additional person.

County Manager Austin Osborne praised Ms. Mather’s work preparing the ordinance. Commissioner Clay Mitchell moved to adopt the second reading, Commissioner Donald Gilman seconded, and the motion passed on a 3–0 vote (Carmona, Mitchell, Gilman voted aye). No public speakers offered comment on the ordinance at the hearing.

The ordinance updates the county’s fee structure for park facilities and establishes explicit residency rules intended to guide enforcement and fee application. The board took final action at the meeting; the ordinance was adopted without amendment and will be reflected in the county code following the clerk’s processing of the ordinance file.
