Parks Commission outlines maintenance priorities: geese treatment, repairs and walkway fixes before Blossom Festival

The Village of Chagrin Falls Parks Commission used part of its May 6 meeting to review maintenance work and scheduling across village parks ahead of the Blossom Festival.
Village staff reported that a Canada goose treatment had been effective, leaving only three families with goslings along the riverbank; the commission said the village and its outside contractor will continue to follow Ohio Department of Natural Resources wildlife guidance. Members also raised repeated reports from residents about corn being left in Riverside Park, calling it littering and discussing options to prevent dumping; the minutes record that CFPD has been contacted by residents about the issue.
The commission reviewed damage to the Riverside Park entrance near the Fischer Memorial Rock after a vehicle struck the entrance brickwork. Staff said sandstone caps on the brick walls will be replaced and the memorial rock reset before the Blossom Festival, and roses removed and replanted. The Jaycees will assist with reseeding the park as part of Blossom Festival preparations.
Commissioners also discussed routine maintenance tasks in other parks: curb construction affecting Triangle Park and the flag pole garden; ongoing brick repairs; irrigation issues and planned sod installation at Bell Street Park with public access blocked during work; and adjustments to mowing/maintenance schedules at River Run Park because of wet spring conditions. The Serpentine Walkway by the library drew notice for railing and drainage concerns; Native Landscaping is coordinating planting updates and suggested a rock river bed to slow runoff from the library parking lot. The commission noted a need to level the walkway near the playground on the east side of Riverside Park.
Rob Jamieson was identified as the contact to handle Grove Hill sign approval with the Western Reserve Land Conservancy, and the mayor is considering a Village Clean Up Day to address multiple post-construction and litter issues.
The meeting adjourned at 9:35 a.m.; the next Parks Commission meeting is scheduled for June 3, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. in Village Hall Council Chambers.
