Chagrin Falls Parks Commission approves summer and holiday events, defers Farmers Market location decision
Summary
The Parks Commission on May 6 approved the July 4 celebration and a package of Chagrin Valley Jaycees events (Food Trucks, Oktubafest, Holiday Display, Lighting of the Greens, Deck the Falls) while asking staff to work with organizers on logistics; Farmers Market location was not finalized because of curb construction in Triangle Park.

The Village of Chagrin Falls Parks Commission approved several seasonal community events during its May 6 meeting, including the July 4 Community Celebration and a package of events organized by the Chagrin Valley Jaycees.
Anne Wombwell de Coningh, chair of the Parks Commission, moved to approve the applications; the motions were seconded and "all approved," according to meeting minutes. The July 4 Community Celebration, described by the Chagrin History Center as including a bike and pet parade, a ceremony, a car show and food trucks, was approved after a motion from Chair Wombwell de Coningh and a second from Council representative Nancy Rogoff.
The commission also approved a set of annual Jaycees events as a group: Food Trucks by the Falls (Sept. 26, 2026, on North Franklin Street, up to eight food vendors and one music vendor), Oktubafest (Oct. 24, 2026), multiple Holiday Display activities (setup mid-November with take-down in mid-January 2027), Lighting of the Greens (Nov. 27, 2026) and Deck the Falls (Dec. 5 and 19, 2026). The Jaycees told the commission they will handle setup and cleanup and have a history of coordination with the village on park care and trash pickup.
The commission did not finalize the proposed North Union Farmers Market location. The market applied to use Triangle Park on Sundays from June 7 through Oct. 25, 2026, with vendor setup beginning early each morning. Commissioners raised concerns about ongoing and planned curb construction that could affect the park; other village locations were discussed but not approved. Village Administration (John Brockway) will contact the Farmers Market organizer to explore options, and Chair Wombwell de Coningh said she would ask the Chamber of Commerce to review the market contract.
The minutes note a likely typo in a Jaycees holiday take-down date (the application lists Jan. 13, 2027, which the commission observed falls on a Thursday); village staff indicated the intended take-down will be either Jan. 16 or Jan. 23, 2027, depending on weather. The commission discussed the durability of Riverside Park decorations, noting the Chamber is responsible for decorated trees while the Jaycees provide and install trees and access to power.
Meeting minutes list the motions and outcomes: approval of April 1 meeting minutes and appointment of Chantel Michalek as Parks Commission secretary (both motions approved), approval of the July 4 event, and approval of the listed Jaycee-coordinated events. The commission did not take a formal vote on the Farmers Market location at this meeting.
The commission is scheduled to meet next on June 3, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. in Village Hall Council Chambers.
