Old Saybrook working group gets update on soil testing, traffic counts; sets follow-up meeting

Subgroup updates: Chris reported the soil-testing agreement is nearing final terms and that the subgroup will meet July 1 to decide whether to sample all 82 properties or a subset; the chosen scope will determine cost estimates and the contract to be submitted for approval.
Streetscape data: The contractor Jacobson reported automated intersection counts and related vehicle classification work. JT Dunn flagged free historical traffic-count data from the state Department of Transportation (2025) that the group asked Jacobson to consider integrating with current counts.
Procedural actions: Members moved and seconded the approval of the minutes from the June 11, 2026 meeting; the group approved the motion on a voice vote (all in favor). Later, a motion to adjourn passed by voice vote.
Next steps and schedule: Casey will expand the draft design standards with Emily and Doug and compare the proposals to existing zoning requirements and a sampling of current lot sizes. The group agreed to delay the nearer meeting and meet on July 30 to allow the small drafting team more time to prepare materials.
No binding zoning changes or budget allocations were adopted at the meeting; members assigned follow-up tasks to the small drafting team and to staff to gather data and coordinate with the fire department.
