Local businesses reported a mixed economic picture after the US Open week. Several restaurants said they saw clear gains while some retailers and service providers said heavy traffic and limited access blunted the boost.
"It had a tremendous impact on our business... our dinner business was up substantially 20–25%," a Southampton Public House representative told the broadcast. Other retailers along Main Street reported increased foot traffic and sales in parts of the week, but some downtown storefronts said customers found it difficult to reach them because of congestion.
Some retailers described long travel times for visitors returning to New York City and noted that crowded roads and parking pinch points limited visits to certain shops. Bestie Nail Spa, for example, described a slower period during peak congestion despite the overall influx of visitors.
Reporters said it remains unclear whether the uptick will persist through the rest of the summer; the segment did not include sales-data reporting or tourism authority analysis beyond on-the-ground business accounts.
