The St. Martinville City Council unanimously adopted two property tax millages for 2026 at its May 4 meeting, setting the General Alimony rate at 3.90 mills and the Public Improvement Bonds rate at 4.11 mills.
The resolution was introduced by Councilman Jonas Fontenette and seconded by Councilwoman Flo Chatman; a roll-call vote recorded unanimous support. The adopted measure instructs the proper administrative officials of the Parish of St. Martin to spread the levies on the 2026 assessment roll and to collect the taxes on behalf of the taxing authority, and states the taxes will become a permanent lien on taxable property as provided by law.
The adopted millages will appear on the 2026 tax roll and be collected under the parish procedures described in the resolution. The council’s official roll call listed Councilmembers Mike Fuselier, Carol Frederick, Jonas Fontenette, Janise Anthony and Flo Chatman as voting in favor.
Votes at a glance: the council also approved publication of the April 20, 2026 minutes in the Teche News; a motion to add an agenda item to name the council chambers failed for lack of a unanimous vote; and the council unanimously voted to table discussion of a grass-height ordinance as it applied to 600 W. Bridge St. The meeting was adjourned after routine announcements.
