Dallas — The Dallas Board of Aldermen authorized town staff to pursue up to $24,000 in grant funding to support the Alder Ridge and Briarwood Stream Restoration Project, the board said at its Oct. 18 meeting.
The board was told Gaston County Natural Resources has applied for leftover funds from a previous grant program and would transfer any award to the Town of Dallas to cover the town’s portion of the work. Staff said the restoration project has received approval from the State and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and is awaiting final permitting.
Johnny Denton of Diamond Engineering, who was present at the meeting, said the work would take place on Town property and that the town would likely do water-line work on a line running under the creek. Officials said Gaston County Natural Resources would serve as the lead agency for the project.
Alderman Friday moved to pursue the grant funds; the motion was seconded by Alderman Withers and carried unanimously. The board did not specify a timetable for when the funds would be received, nor did it provide engineering or construction start dates; those remain dependent on permitting and the county’s transfer of funds.
The board did not adopt any contract or allocate specific construction funds at the Oct. 18 meeting; those decisions would be addressed in later agenda items or at a future meeting once grant award and permit details are confirmed.
