St. Martinville council directs cleanup/demolition bids for dilapidated structure, approves canal IGA and Main Street engineering amendment

Otis Chatman, Planning & Zoning coordinator, presented an inspection report by City Inspector Rodney Richard on a property owned by Joseph and Janet Sam at the corner of W. Denbas Street and Theatre Street. Council members were told that multiple letters to the owners had received no response; the council instructed staff to research who is paying taxes on the property, post a recorded notice on the door, and obtain bids for demolition. If the property is not cleaned, the item will return for further council consideration at a subsequent meeting.
Separately, Councilman Mike Fuselier moved and Councilwoman Janise Anthony seconded authorizing Mayor Jason Willis to execute an intergovernmental agreement with St. Martin Parish Government to clean Willis Canal; the motion was recorded as unanimously carried. Councilman Jonas Fontenette moved and Councilwoman Flo Chatman seconded authorizing Amendment #1 to the contract with C.H. Fenstermaker & Associates, L.L.C., for engineering services on the Main Street Enhancement Project (planning and construction); that motion was also unanimously carried according to the minutes.
The council also authorized the city’s Public Works Department to clean an adjudicated property at 116 Main Street, place remaining items inside the building, and board up the structure on motion by Councilman Fuselier and second by Councilwoman Anthony. The minutes record these actions as unanimously carried but do not provide numerical vote tallies.
