The Syosset Central School District Board of Education convened July 1 for its reorganizational and regular meeting, swearing in trustees, electing officers for the 2026–27 year, approving a wide set of administrative appointments and procurement authorizations, and accepting routine financial reports.
During the reorganizational portion, trustees Ena Choy and Susan Falhov were sworn in for terms running July 1, 2026–June 30, 2029. By voice vote the board elected Lisa Kosia as board president and Susan Falhov as vice president for 2026–27. "Thank you everyone. I appreciate your trust in me and I look forward to the year ahead as being president," Kosia said after the vote.
The board also appointed the student Board of Education member, Ella Diora, for 2026–27. Mr. Routollo moved the student‑member appointment and Miss Abramson seconded; board members offered congratulations and mentorship. The board proceeded through a long slate of routine reorganizational and operational motions: appointments of district clerk and records officers; treasurer, deputy and central treasurer; data protection officer; district physician and health services; internal and claims auditors; purchasing agents; payroll certification officers; transportation supervisor; attendance and residency officer; Title I coordinators; and other professional and administrative appointments. The board approved committee assignments related to special education, re‑adopted policies on investments and purchasing, and approved settlements and contracts presented on the agenda.
In financial business, the treasurer reported reconciled bank balances and a cash‑on‑hand figure for May 2026 of $190,530,351.46. The board approved minutes of June 8 and June 16 and accepted the treasurer’s report and appropriations adjustments.
Superintendent Dr. Thomas Rogers briefly reiterated that the district is pursuing opposition filings with Propel New York concerning an underground energy transmission cable project and said the district will provide a comprehensive update in August on summer construction progress ahead of the school year opening.
Under personnel business the board approved stipends, hourly rates, fall coaching recommendations, athletic trainers, driver education instructors, and named Mr. Miller as assistant principal of school counseling; Miller thanked the board and said he looks forward to serving students in the new role.
After completing a lengthy set of cooperative purchasing authorizations and awards for the 2026–27 year, the board read the rules for the audience‑to‑the‑public segment (registration requirement, four‑minute time limit per resident, residency requirement, and conduct rules) and then adjourned for the summer recess. The next regular meeting is scheduled for the end of August.
