Palm Springs library renovation remains on budget and on track, trustees hear

The Palm Springs Public Library Board of Trustees was told July 1 that the library renovation project remains on budget and is proceeding on schedule, with a projected completion sometime in 2027.

Library staff summarized recent work, saying architects and contractors are finalizing fabrics, finishes and furniture and coordinating deliveries with an office furniture vendor. Staff said the project team is working with a design firm called Lucy Creative to develop a special play feature for the children’s area. Staff also noted outdoor work will include median improvements on Sunrise Way to modify a center island and limit illegal left turns when the library driveway is active.

When trustees asked whether the project was on budget and on schedule, staff responded that it was and cautioned that completion timing could still be affected by typical construction risks such as delivery delays. The staff presentation referenced a June 9 project meeting and described the current phase as design development and furniture selection.

City funding was also discussed: staff said the city council has restored library operating funds that will support reopening and acquisition of opening-day materials. Trustees were told interior installation was not yet underway in many areas, so staff declined to give a firm opening date beyond the general 2027 timeframe.

The board did not take formal action on the renovation at this meeting. The next scheduled board meeting is Sept. 2, 2026, when trustees expect to receive further updates.
