The Surry County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved the county manager’s recommendation to accept an initial $4,000 offer from Kent Collins for surplus property located at 150 Bourbon Trail in Mount Airy (parcel #50121324226), and authorized the upset bid process to begin contingent on a 5% bid deposit from Collins.
County Manager Chris Knopf presented a March 10 offer from Collins, who indicated an intent to clean and secure the lot to reduce criminal activity in the neighborhood. Commissioner Melissa Hiatt noted concerns about the property’s condition and the effort required to clean and secure it before the Board voted to approve the initial bid (motion: Commissioner Hiatt; second: Chairman Bill Goins).
