The Scott County Board voted on March 17 to adopt resolution 2026‑19, authorizing the release of a use restriction and authorizing conveyance of a county parcel to Spring Lake Township or, if the township declines, disposal of the parcel on the market under state statute.
Staff explained the item had been tabled earlier because of a concern that the township had not been fully apprised. County staff said the township needs a small outlet easement or parcel carve‑out to repair a failed drain tile under 180th Street. "If they don't want this property, then we can sell that property on our own by putting it on the market," staff said while noting the RBA language was written to remain flexible.
Matt Stoddle, township engineer with Stone Brook Engineering, told the board the township did not want to own the parcel outright but does require a small easement for the outlet structure. He warned that a protracted conveyance or sale process could jeopardize the project schedule and the township’s ability to complete the repair this season. "The township doesn't have a desire to own the property. Uh we do need an easement," Stoddle said, urging clarity on timing.
