Commissioners reviewed proposals from Ohio Native Concepts to rehabilitate wet areas and meadows at Blackjack Wetlands and a wet, hard-to-mow corner of the public cemetery. Staff said the quotes cover invasive-species removal, site preparation and native-seed plantings as part of a broader boardwalk and meadow-restoration effort.
John Alberts expressed interest in converting the cemetery’s wet northeast corner into a low- or no-mow meadow to reduce maintenance costs; the commission agreed the approach could help long-term upkeep. Staff reported they had reached back out to Ohio Native Concepts to proceed and were awaiting confirmation and scheduling.
Members also described a larger Arrow Foundation Park meadow plan (about 15 acres) previously discussed; that project’s timing was adjusted because of a large scheduled group camping event this fall, so staff plan to complete mowing- and site-prep work next year. Commissioners said the Blackjack and cemetery projects will help reduce mowing costs and improve pollinator habitat once implemented.
Next steps: staff will confirm scheduling with the contractor, finalize seed mixes and select precise planting windows in coordination with park-users and scheduled events.
