Ararat Volunteer Fire Department cleared to finance $621,631 apparatus

Andy Bryant of the Ararat Volunteer Fire Department told the board the department needs to replace aging apparatus and has researched financing options. He asked the Board to acknowledge the department’s intent to enter a lease purchase with Home Trust Bank, a municipal lender the department selected.
Bryant said the quoted purchase price is $621,631 for a 2026 Kenworth T480 equipped with a 1,000-gallon pump and 1,500 gallons-per-minute capacity, manufactured by US Pump Company. The department proposed financing of up to $550,000 with a $75,000 down payment, yielding annual payments of $46,936.44 over 18 years. Bryant told the Board the apparatus would serve the community for 25 to 30 years.
Upon motion by Commissioner Hiatt, seconded by Commissioner Marion, the Board voted unanimously to allow Ararat Volunteer Fire Department to enter the lease purchase agreement. The approval is an acknowledgment that permits the department to proceed with financing; the Board did not appropriate county funds to the purchase.
