DeRidder council honors mayor’s youth council, a 105-year-old honoree and retiring clerk Glenna Luther

The DeRidder City Council devoted several agenda moments May 26 to community recognition.
Members of the mayor’s youth council were called forward and praised for service activities, including filling and distributing about 7,000 Easter eggs as part of a community program. The youth council president described the group’s goal to build a foundation for younger leaders.
In a public hearing for an honorary street designation, Carlos Arid presented a petition on behalf of CNB to honor a local woman who will turn 106 in June; the council approved the honorary designation unanimously.
The council also honored long-time city council clerk Glenna L. Luther, who is retiring after nearly 10 years in the clerk role (Aug. 8, 2016–May 29, 2026). The council presented a plaque and a $500 gift certificate. In her remarks, Glenna Luther reflected on her appointment and the job’s responsibilities; she advised future clerks to learn the charter, saying, "read and learn this. it's the city's charter."
