Councilor Steadman moved to hire Fye, but the motion "failed for a second so the motion dies," and council agreed to revisit the matter at a future meeting. Chief Pernice later asked the council for clarity so he could inform the applicant what occurred.
The council did not record additional debate or a vote tally on the failed motion in the minutes; the hiring recommendation remains under consideration pending future action.
