Board reviews Husky Field fencing, batting-cage placement and turf drainage plans

Board members reviewed phase-one plans for Husky Field and discussed safety, sightlines and operational concerns.

The proposed layout uses color-coded fencing with heights varying by location: perimeter security fencing and certain areas were described at eight feet, sections near spectator sightlines at four to six feet, and a removable six-foot outfield fence on wheels intended to be stored when not in use. The design includes a permanent left-field foul pole and a removable upright near the concession area to keep the field usable for football season.

Members raised specific concerns about the proposed batting cage location close to the football field and adjacent handicap parking. One trustee said the cage's poles appeared cemented in and asked architects to relocate it closer to the third baseline so the field's view and accessibility would not be obstructed during football events. Officials noted water-retention requirements and pitch constraints influenced placement; designers said the site includes drainage and subsurface retention sized to handle extreme storms.

Operational details of the portable outfield fence (on wheels with a 4-foot base) and dugout design were discussed; athletic staff preferred more solid dugout structures to reduce fan distraction. The superintendent said he would ask the contractor (Kyle Smith, CSR) to move the batting cage and continue working on final placement and accessibility issues.

Board members did not vote on the field plan at this meeting; discussion centered on design clarifications and preferred adjustments ahead of construction.
