Union City approves $22,295 sinkhole repair and pipe work at Municipal Lot No. 1
Summary

The Union City Borough Council on Aug. 13 approved contracting Mansfield to repair a sinkhole and associated storm pipe damage at Municipal Lot No. 1 for $22,295.
Streets Supervisor Bob Phillips reported that a 24-inch clay tile under the lot had given way near a municipal authority pipe and that the adjacent manhole was covered in the other direction. Consultant Bob Carpenter of Insight and borough engineer Tim Wells recommended a plan to replace the 24-inch clay tile in the sinkhole, reconnect all pipes in the sinkhole to the 24-inch line, install a larger catch basin next to the sinkhole and replace roughly 10 feet of pipe.
The borough received two estimates: Mansfield for $22,295 and McLallen Construction for $23,450; both bids required the borough to provide a truck during the work. Councilor Steadman moved (seconded by Councilor Osborn) to authorize Mansfield to perform the work; the motion carried unanimously.
Streets Supervisor Bob Phillips will coordinate scheduling and provide the borough vehicle as required. The motion included acceptance of the lower bid and no additional funding source was specified at the meeting.
