Lucas Local to advance phase one of recommended energy-efficiency upgrades after audit

Rusty Bookman of Energy Optimizers presented findings from an energy audit of Lucas Local Schools' three buildings on Aug. 19, recommending a phased approach that could include lighting, electrical and HVAC upgrades.
Bookman provided anticipated numbers and a phase-in schedule and told the board that a formal resolution would be required if the district decided to proceed with a project. Board members asked operational questions: visitor Tim Palm asked whether the audit included windows and doors and said he would not want HVAC work if sealing of windows and doors had not been addressed.
Board member Eric Steward said he wants to proceed and asked that phase one of the Energy Optimizers lighting project be placed on the September agenda; the board agreed to advance that step. No dollar amounts or final scope were recorded in the minutes; the board will need to consider formal authorization and any required resolutions at the subsequent meeting.
The presentation also flagged operational needs for athletics (volunteer help with a Kubota mower at the football stadium) but the core facilities item the board moved forward was the vendor’s phased energy-efficiency plan.
