City staff and consultants presented the design development for a proposed satellite fire station and reviewed schedule and budget estimates.
FGM Architects (Brennan Harton) said the building footprint is about 13,371 square feet with a second‑floor mezzanine fitness area of 2,220 square feet for a total just under 15,600 square feet. Harton said the design prioritizes contaminant control with separate hot/warm/cold zones and decontamination spaces to limit cancer‑causing exposures from firefighting gear. He described durable exterior materials including multiple shades of burnished concrete masonry units and an aluminum siding product with a wood finish.
Construction manager Sean Yankee (Boyd Jones) said the updated subcontractor‑informed estimate is tracking just under $11 million for construction and the full development cost (design fees, FF&E, contingency) is under $12 million. He said the team expects 100% construction documents by September and planned to put the project out to bid, with construction anticipated to start spring 2027 and finish in early summer 2028.
Councilors praised the focus on firefighter health and asked staff about traffic‑signal override and other operational details; an open house was scheduled for the following day.
