Emily Gardner, the district’s teaching and learning lead coordinator (participating by Zoom), summarized the curriculum development process and recommended formal adoption of HealthSmart for grades 6–12, noting alignment with the elementary HealthSmart program already used in the district. Julie moved approval and Michelle seconded.
During discussion a board member reminded families that they retain the option to opt out of specific health instruction, and other members said the selection process incorporated teacher and parent feedback. With those clarifications, the board voted to approve the curriculum update.
Administrators said the adoption aligns secondary health instruction with the district’s existing elementary approach and reflected feedback gathered from teachers and families during the review process.
