Council approves Joint Powers Agreement to join Highway 7 Safe Road Zone enforcement grant

The Deephaven City Council voted to approve a Joint Powers Agreement to participate in a Highway 7 Safe Road Zone enforcement grant obtained by the Saint Louis Park Police Department.
City Administrator Dan Madsen explained the project and Police Chief Cory Johnson said the grant funds extra enforcement on Highway 7 from July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2025. Chief Johnson described the program as an opportunity for Deephaven officers to collaborate with neighboring agencies and work overtime on cross-jurisdictional enforcement.
Councilmember Tony Jewett moved to approve the JPA; Councilmember Emily Scherschligt seconded. Ayes recorded in the minutes were Mayor Kent Carlson and Councilmembers Steve Erickson, Tony Jewett, Emily Scherschligt and John Studer; the motion carried.
