Eagle Lake approves radios and anniversary expenses for fire department; chief honors retiring leader

Fire Chief Spencer Kolles told the council on June 1 that former Fire Chief Vern Simpson is retiring after 20 years of service; the council acknowledged Simpson’s tenure. Kolles presented a quote from Alpha Wireless for 25 Motorola portable radios totaling $98,424.62, with programming estimated at $3,000; the radios are at end of life and the department asked to use gambling funds for the purchase. The council authorized use of gambling funds for the radios.
Kolles also requested authorization to use gambling funds, not to exceed $2,500, to purchase Tator Days kickoff T-shirts for the department's 75th-anniversary events and to recognize retired members. The council approved that expenditure. Kolles said the department expects a new ladder truck in August or September and asked permission to appraise and list the existing ladder truck for sale on the MN Bid site; Administrator Bromeland advised the truck be sold "as is" and that the city reserve the right to accept or reject bids; the council authorized sale on MN Bid.
The council recorded motions to authorize the purchases and sales and extended thanks to Vern Simpson for his service.
