Eagle Lake advances land use plan grant, discusses planning intern and development outreach

City Administrator Jennifer Bromeland told the Eagle Lake Planning Commission on May 18 that staff have advanced to the full proposal stage for a Landen Foundation grant to update the city's Land Use Plan, and that the cost of the update is estimated at approximately $30,000.
Bromeland said she had been contacted by a Minnesota State University-Mankato student who is interested in a planning internship and currently serves on the Shakopee City Council. If the City Council approves the internship, Bromeland said the intern could work on the city's sign ordinance and help identify available lots.
Bromeland also reported that four new home permits have been issued so far this year. Resident Jim Sohler, who has previous planning commission experience elsewhere, suggested the city consider identifying developers who may be interested in developing the southern portion of Eagle Lake.
Under other business Bromeland told the commission that Xcel will not be installing power lines along the northern edge of Highway 14, the city has not yet received official notice about the state's bonding bill, and the city's bond rating stands at AA-.
Next steps: Staff will await City Council action on the internship request and continue work on the grant proposal for the Land Use Plan update.
