The City Council approved transitioning the City of Eagle Lake’s official email domain from mn.com to a newly acquired .gov domain at the April 6 meeting.
Administrator Jennifer Bromeland explained the .gov domain requires formal validation and is reserved for verified government entities. She and staff said the change reduces the risk of phishing and spoofing by clearly identifying official communications, improves public confidence, and aligns the city with state and federal agencies that prefer trusted domains for secure communications. The council accepted a quote of $2,256 to implement the transition, covering setup, configuration and coordination. Mayor John Whitington said a dual-email approach will be used during the transition period.
Council Member Anthony White moved to accept the quote; Nick Lewis seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
