Crosby-Ironton board reinstates music performance stipends and adopts several policies

At its February meeting, the Crosby-Ironton School Board approved several formal actions: adoption of revised policies and the reinstatement of budgeted stipends for extracurricular music performances.
The board adopted second readings and final versions of revised policies 710 (extracurricular transportation), 711 (video recording on school buses), 712 (video recording other than on school buses) and 410 (family and medical leave). The motions passed by voice vote.
On a separate motion the board reinstated prior budget reductions that had cut pay for instrumental and vocal music performances outside the school day and for high-school pep-band performances. The board approved making some pep-band performances retroactive toward the minimum performance counts required for stipends and restoring stipends going forward. Members noted this will be reflected in next year’s preliminary budget and cautioned that restoring activities requires offsets elsewhere in the budget.
Board members also discussed academic trade-offs tied to evening and after-school performances. One member said the work session materials showed a substantial number of students missing class when performances were scheduled — presenters gave figures ranging from roughly 144 to 174 students absent from instruction for performance duties — and emphasized the need to balance extracurricular participation with instructional time.
Other motions approved at the meeting included routine items such as approval of minutes, personnel consent items and a sixth-grade overnight field trip to Long Lake Conservation Center (March 25–27, 2026).
