Medfield — The Select Board on May 12 heard two proposed volunteer projects for the Medfield Rail Trail and moved to support the scouts conceptually while requesting formal presentations before final approvals.
Christian Donner presented two proposals: an Eagle Scout candidate, Jordan Agnello, to restore rail artifacts (straighten/patch/paint concrete whistle posts and restore a historic battery-box foundation), and a Girl Scout Silver‑award project (Karina Zen, Brooke Jennings and Satia Sadimi) to research and install an interpretive sign at the Farm Street depot site. Donner said the proposed sign would include historic photographs and text behind a weather-resistant epoxy face.
Board members and staff asked that the Eagle candidate and the Girl Scouts present in person when seeking formal approvals; Donner said that was planned. Board members reiterated that the town will provide support and requested that final proposals include materials, exact locations and maintenance plans.
Separately, a board member reported seeing political messaging placed at an approved rail-trail kiosk that is intended for nonpolitical interpretive material. The board member removed the unauthorized signs that day and asked that kiosk keys and placement be controlled to prevent future misuse. Another resident raised longstanding illegal yard‑waste dumping at a rail-trail access off Colonial Street; the board asked staff to investigate enforcement options and follow up with the identified property owner.
What’s next: Scouts were encouraged to prepare in-person presentations for a future meeting; staff will follow up on the dumping complaint and on kiosk management procedures.
