China assessors approve $10,889.16 in abatements and supplemental tax adjustments

The Town of China Assessors approved a slate of routine property tax abatements and supplemental assessments totaling $10,889.16 at a meeting Monday night, carrying unanimous votes on every item.
Chair Wayne Chadwick opened the meeting at 6:00 p.m., led the Pledge of Allegiance and the board conducted a roll call that showed all five assessors present: Edwin Bailey, Thomas Rumpf, Blane Casey, Jeanne Marquis and Wayne Chadwick. The board first approved the minutes from the Sept. 8, 2025 meeting on a motion by Assessor Jeanne Marquis and a second from Assessor Edwin Bailey (5-0).
The bulk of the meeting consisted of clerical tax actions. The assessors approved nine abatements—ranging from $1.29 to $2,508.48—for a total of $6,088.80. They also approved six supplemental assessments totaling $4,800.36. Every abatement and supplemental was moved, seconded and approved by a recorded 5-0 vote. Examples include a $2,508.48 abatement for James Malley (Act 108) approved on a motion by Assessor Blane Casey with Assessor Thomas Rumpf seconding, and a $2,508.48 supplemental for Michael V. & Larissa M. Skeens (Act 108) approved on a motion by Assessor Blane Casey with Assessor Thomas Rumpf seconding.
